Best Practice Group
The Steeper Best Practice Group, made up of experienced clinicians and prosthetists, have published comprehensive evidence-based guidelines for lower-limb prosthetic treatment. Designed to help prosthetists and clinicians make appropriate treatment choices for their patients, they are now available to download. Click here to read the guidelines.
Built around evidence-based medicine and clinical opinion to provide practitioners with consistent information they can refer to again and again.
As well as supporting clinicians in the decision-making process and assisting them in thoroughly investigating treatment options, the guidelines will also help to reduce national variations in prescription and produce recommendations that can be easily audited.
By using the renowned Delphi method, the clinicians at Steeper have attempted to pool a consensus of professional opinion for each guideline statement and produce recommendations that are supported either by medical evidence, professional recommendation, or both. The recommendations cover three key areas:
• Prescription of socket type
• Casting method
• Prescription of generic hardware
The guidelines have been reviewed and endorsed by the British Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Amputee Rehabilitation (BACPAR); themselves leading specialists in the production of treatment guidelines in prosthetic rehabilitation.
