RSLSteeper 2011 Clinical Conference
The RSLSteeper 2011 Clinical Conference took place on 21st and 22nd October at the Holiday Inn, Coventry. The theme for this year’s conference reflected our new vision ‘Improving Peoples Lives’ with presentations on outcomes and evidence to demonstrate how we achieve this.
Mark Davies, Divisional Director for Orthotic and Prosthetic Services opened the conference and welcomed our Key Note Speaker, Helen Marriott, AHP Strategic Workforce Development Manager, NHS East Midlands. Helen’s presentation stressed the importance of outcomes and discussed the implications for AHPs on the Governments plans for innovating the NHS.
Blake Norquist, Certified Orthotist and Cranial Products Manager for US company Orthomerica Products Inc. then took to the stage to provide a fascinating presentation into deformational plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome) and craniosynostosis including incidence, cause and both surgical and orthotic treatment options. Kate Chauhan, Clinical Specialist Orthotist for Steeper Clinic followed Blake’s presentation with some case studies of babies Kate has treated at the Steeper Clinic in the last year.
The afternoon sessions contained presentations by 11 of RSLSteeper clinicians focusing on case studies, outcomes and evidence reflecting our vision to ‘Improve people’s lives’.
The conference kicked off on Friday evening with dinner and a hoe-down theme with lots of cowboys and cowgirls taking up the challenge to tame the rodeo bull!
