New Plagiocephaly Treatment Centre Opening
This month, we are expanding our plagiocephaly treatment services, and opening an additional Steeper Clinic in Kingston Upon Thames. The centre will be open from 31st October 2011.
The new clinic follows on from the success of Steeper Clinic in Leeds, which has treated babies across the north of England since its launch in November 2010.
Like the original Steeper Clinic, the new facility is dedicated to the treatment of babies suffering from head shape abnormalities, including deformational plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome).
The centre will offer free, no obligation consultations, provided by our experienced team of HPC registered and CRB checked paediatric orthotists.
In addition to diagnosis and advice, it will also provide a complete range of treatment services, which includes the use of repositioning techniques (‘tummy time’), and STARband cranial remoulding orthoses (helmets).
Kate Chauhan, Clinical Specialist Orthotist at Steeper Clinic said:
“Steeper Clinic has been a huge success, and we are looking forward to bringing our leading-edge treatment service to parents and babies across the south-east.
“Deformational plagiocephaly is becoming increasingly common, and the NHS does not currently fund treatment for the conditions, despite growing evidence that in severe cases, plagiocephaly can increase the risk of developing associated problems later on in life.
“At Steeper Clinic, we provide advice on the best course of treatment. These range from the use of “tummy time” and repositioning techniques for younger babies and mild instances of the condition, to cranial remoulding orthoses (STARband helmets), which can significantly improve the head shape in babies who suffer from moderate to severe deformational plagiocephaly.”
STARband is the world’s leading orthotic treatment for deformational plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome) in babies aged between 4 and 18 months. Over 125,000 babies have been successfully treated using STARband worldwide.
